Welcome Back Letter

In Year 4 we follow the 2014 Primary National Curriculum. Lessons are carefully sequenced to develop and build upon the children’s knowledge, understanding and skills. We actively promote a love of learning and foster this through exciting active learning opportunities and trips. We offer each child the opportunity to use their imagination, explore, challenge, question, problem solve and explain their thinking throughout their learning journey.

Developing independence as learners and critical thinkers is a priority within Year 4; we actively work with the children to develop these skills through discussion and exploration of character muscles. Focusing on how and when we can use these skills throughout our daily activities, we encourage each child to continue growing and developing into being the best version of their unique self.

We are enthusiastic readers in Year 4 and enjoy a wide variety of books including poetry, fiction and non-fiction to support our learning, encourage our creativity and develop our vocabulary across the curriculum. Building on prior learning, there is a particular focus on multiplication within Year 4 and we encourage all children to practice and learn their times tables to support their progression across the maths curriculum.

The Year 4 day starts at 8:35am and finishes at 3:15pm. In order to support each child to achieve their best effective communication between home and school is essential, we positively encourage parental involvement in all aspects of their child’s learning.

Year 4’s PE days are Tuesday and Friday, please ensure that your child is wearing their PE kit and come with a water bottle.

If you wish your child to have a break time snack each morning please send your child in with £1 each week.

Homework will be set and the children will be expected to bring this in weekly or submit it on Seesaw. Homework projects are a great way to showcase a child’s talent and special interests and an opportunity to share it with others in the class.

Year Four staff are Wendy Souter, Jo McKenzie, Laura Gal & Eloise Duddy (AM).
