Sunshine Room Blog

Week commencing 22.6.20

This week, I have received some photos from Martinas – thank you so much for sharing them with us. He has been camping in his garden and slept in his tent, which looked like such a fun adventure! It also looks like he had a great time at the seaside. We look forward to seeing what you get up to next.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t celebrate Oakley’s birthday together in the Sunshine Room, which was a huge shame. However, rest assured we will make sure we have a chocolate cake ready for him when we are back at school. In the meantime…Happy birthday, Oakley!!!!!!

Martinas has been making paper planes and I thought I would set you a challenge.

I would like you to make a paper plane, decorate it and have 5 tries at sending it as far as you can. Each time you try, measure the distance that your plane flew and record the best score. Send the results to me with some pictures and we will reveal the winner in a couple of weeks. Are you up for the challenge?

  Week commencing  1.06.20

A little update from our Sunshine Room children. All the children were very happy to receive their special “You Are Missed" cards. It was lovely to see your smiles!!!

Martinas has been working super hard helping his Dad to wash the car - well done!

Michal and his sister have been busy baking some delicious-looking biscuits!!!

I hope you will share your recipe so we can make them in one of our weekly Peer Group sessions :)

Tuesday 25th February 2020

We have had a busy afternoon at our Peer Group today. The Sunshine Room group has expanded and welcomed a new member: Haider! We gave him a sign name as we all have one.

Harley and Haider are good classmates so Harley invited his friend along to join our group. As usual, we did lots of good speaking and listening, playing a 'Who Am I game, which was great fun!

We love making, baking and cooking so Pancake Day was the perfect excuse to have a hands-on experience. And guess what? Miss Rutkowska nearly set the fire alarms off as she spilt the pancake batter on the hob, which created a lot of smoke! Luckily, Mr. Hussain opened the windows and saved the afternoon. We don't think the rest of the school would have thanked us if they had to stand in the cold!  Before we went home we had a small party for Michal's birthday!

Tuesday 11th February 2020

Today we did meditation, Harley enjoyed it.

Imran said "I had fun making biscuits, using flour, sugar, egg and vanilla essence." Some of the children learnt about the ear and how it works.

Tuesday 4th February 2020

Sunshine Room Peer Group

After lunch we had circle time we listened and answered questions such as what do you want to be when you are older?

Afterwards we split into two groups. One group made yummy biscuits and the other group created a collage.

See our great pictures!

Tuesday 21st January 2020

We have been given a challenge from Mrs Lapsa to design and create a collection of hats for the Mad Hatter to wear. These will form part of the Alice in Wonderland display.

Check out our amazing, colourful designs that will help us to create our 3D hats.

Tuesday 7th January 2020

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome back! Our new topic this term is transport. In circle time we talked about what we did in the holidays.

Kierah enjoyed playing transport bingo. The children started making models of vehicles we will finish them next week.

Tuesday 17th December 2019

Today it is our last session before we break up for the Christmas holiday. We have been having fun and lots of laughter all afternoon. We played musical statues, pass the parcel, Chinese whispers in sign language and we enjoyed yummy toast and chocolate cake! Sadly, we say goodbye to Daniella, we will miss you and we wish you all the best in your new school.

Monday 9th December 2019

We went to the Cinema today to watch 'Stardog and Turbocat'. There was a Deaf interpreter who signed the movie. We really enjoyed it and had lots of fun.

Tuesday 26th November 2019

Play dough Fun!

We made our own playdough last week. We kept it in the fridge for a few days and today we are making all sorts of shapes with it. We also loved the new story 'Freddie and the Fairy'.

Tuesday 19th November 2019

"I loved making playdough and eating biscuits" said Edgars

"I liked the story time. We read Dachy's Deaf" said Oakley.

"I made playdough, it was very soft and crunchy" said Harley.

" I liked the feel of my play dough because it was very soft and smooth" said Kierah.

Making playdough was such fun! The Sunshine Room got very messy but we all managed to make it spotless again.

Tuesday 5th November 2019

Remember, remember the 5th of November....

Today we learnt about Guy Fawkes  and the gunpowder plot.

We made fireworks using salt, glue, paint and glitter. Check out our art work!

We also celebrated Harley's belated birthday.

Tuesday 22nd October 2019

Today the children finished their skeleton pictures and dressed up in their spooky costumes.

We went on a chocolate coin hunt in the garden and played some party games. Afterwards we listened to 'The Monster Mash' and had some party food.

Tuesday 15th October 2019

Today we listened to the story of 'Funny Bones'. We also enjoyed eating the vegetable soup that we made in our last session.

"I liked making the skeleton out of paper straws" Harley.

"I really enjoyed cutting out and putting together a skeleton puzzle with my friends" Kierah.

"I liked playing outside. I found a skeleton's leg" Martinas.

Daniella's favourite part of the story " I like the skeleton playing in the park."

Tuesday 8th October 2019

In our session today, we made a delicious vegetable soup. We used special, safe knives. Some of the vegetables were hard to chop like the pumpkin and potatoes, some were much softer and easier to chop like onion or broccoli. We will freeze the soup... and let you know what it tastes like next week.

We also had fun painting our giant vegetables. Please check out the photos.

Tuesday 1st October 2019

We are getting really good at our speaking and listening.

Tuesday 24th September 2019

This afternoon we have been learning about our body. We labelled and named its parts. We had a competition who could guess the name of the body part correctly. Harley said: "We need lungs to be able to breathe, also smoking is bad for your lungs."

Tuesday 17th September 2019

Today we have been learning about the school's fire procedure . We walked around the school  to look for fire alarms and fire exits.

Tuesday 10th September 2019

Welcome back to our Sunshine Room Blog!

We all had a fantastic Summer. How about you?

We returned to school full of energy and ready to learn new things.

Today we have been learning about Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants and how they help us to hear better.

Tuesday 16th July

Tuesday 2nd July

Tuesday 11th June
